Support for the Bronx's littlest learners

In the Bronx, raising a baby is rarely a two-person job — it's abuelas, aunties, upstairs neighbors, and cousins who all have an opinion on when the little one should be talking. If your child's milestones feel late, New York's Early Intervention Program offers real help at no cost to your family. Star EIP is a New York State–approved agency serving families across the Bronx, from Mott Haven to Wakefield, bringing evaluations and therapy straight to your door.

What home visits look like in the Bronx

Bronx home visits fit around real Bronx life. Your therapist comes to your apartment on the Concourse, your tower in Co-op City, or your house in Throggs Neck, and works with your child using the toys, foods, and routines you already have — no special equipment, no clinic waiting room, no bus transfer with a toddler in tow. Sessions are scheduled around naps, shift work, and school pickups, and whoever cares for your child that day — a parent, grandparent, or trusted caregiver — is welcome to join and learn the same strategies.

Care in your family's language

The Bronx's families reflect its Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican, West African, and Bangladeshi communities, among many others. Our therapist network serves Bronx families in languages including Spanish, French, and Bengali, and we prioritize matching your family with a clinician who speaks your home language whenever we can.

Yes. The program is provided at no cost to every eligible Bronx family, and a developmental evaluation is available regardless of insurance coverage or immigration status. Health insurance or Medicaid may be billed behind the scenes, but families never pay out of pocket.

Can a grandparent be there for sessions instead of a parent? +

Early Intervention is family-centered, and the adults who care for your child day to day are encouraged to take part. Many Bronx families have grandparents closely involved, and therapists are glad to coach them on the same strategies so your child gets consistent support.
